WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item upgrader kit level by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major Item level upgrade cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item level upgrade (the original source) upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will show an image of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
